PPGs act as representatives of the patient population, and are a way of better connecting general practice with the community it serves. They meet on a regular basis to have open and constructive discussions about the services available – always with a view to taking action to make real improvements for patients and for the practice.

Benefits for patients

PPGs are a grassroots way of affecting change, and involving patients in improving the health and well-being of the local community. They have an increasingly important role to play in helping to give patients a say in the way services are delivered to best meet their needs, and the needs of the local community.

PPGs help to improve communication between patients and their practice. By improving practice websites and chatting to patients face to face, they are able to better understand, and help the practice in responding to, the real needs of the community.

The PPG Ground Rules

The group is not a forum for individual complaints and single-issue concerns.
We advocate open and honest communication and respectable challenge between individuals.
We will be flexible, listen, ask for help and support each other.
We will demonstrate a commitment to delivering results, as a group.
Silence indicates agreement – speak up, but always go through the Chair.
All respectable views are valid and will be listened to.
Offensive and discriminatory language will not be tolerated.
No phones or other disruptions.
We will start and finish on time, and stick to the agenda.

APRIL 2023:

We are fund-raising for new equipment to support Marazion Surgery, with a Grand Spring Raffle, to be drawn on 31st May 2023. We accept payment by card or in cash!

Update 31st May 2023 - We are delighted to have raised £680.00, which has been donated to Marazion Surgery to help equip the new consulting room being built at the surgery. Thank you to everyone who contributed prizes, sold tickets or bought tickets. Congratulations to the lucky winners who were contacted on 31st May.

A member associated with Goldsithney Charter Fair arranged for a donation of £146.56 to purchase a Carefusion Pulmolife COPD Screening Device. This was purchased and is being used for the benefit of many patients at the Practice. Thank you!

January 2023:

We would like to reinstate our PPG and welcome existing members and new members to join us for coffee & cake on 25th January 2023.

Formal Minutes were not taken of this event as it was an open discussion, but we were delighted to see so many patients attend and express an interest, including many who had been involved before. A further meeting was arranged for 22nd February 2023.

Previous Event have included:

A raffle in 2020 raised £360.00 - unfortunately this coincided with the start of the Covid Pandemic, so it was difficult to advertise this or sell tickets!

Information Sharing Evenings in November 2019 about Dementia, and February 2020 about Carers Services, proved very popular and those who attended found them very informative.

Covid-19 Pandemic

We apologise that due to patient safety and to minimise the risk of infection, we had to temporarily suspended our PPG Meetings due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Members of the PPG, indeed any patients, were welcome to contact Juliette, by email or telephone, at the surgery during this time.
